Abstract

The study investigates the effect of the farmers and herders’ conflict on peasants in the Doma
Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. The study adopts materialistic theory of conflict as its
theoretical framework. A mixed-method of qualitative and quantitative research was used for this
study. A sample size of 400 was obtained from the population of 214,600 using the Yamane
formula. And 400 questionnaires were administered to the respondents in the study area, 348 were
filled and returned, out of which 320 were validly filled. The analysis was done based on 320
validly filed using descriptive statistical methods such as tables, frequencies and percentages. The
results reveal that farmers and herders’ conflicts continued to occur due to migration, green
vegetation, and poor policies. The study recommends that the government should legislate on open
grazing to mitigate the menace in the Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
