Abstract

The world population continues to increase daily and puts pressure on infrastructural and 
social amenities. Thus, cities around the world are experiencing rapid and unprecedented 
population growth, especially in developed and developing countries of the 20th Century. 
It is obvious that any area with increasing population density has serious implications on 
the city planning and Katsina metropolis is not an exception. The basic problem is to assess 
the population growth in Katsina metropolis and its effect on urban planning in the capital. 
This research employed a survey design triangulating in both research techniques, 
methods, data, analysis, and presentation. A sample of 380 respondents were used to 
generate data and analyze using SPSS. From the result derived include a growth in 
population, this growth has a direct impact on urban planning, ways of urban 
growth/planning and ways of controlling urban planning via population growth in Katsina 
metropolis. The researcher recommended measures like legislation, public education, birth 
control and a proper check on immigration most especially from bordering nations.
